This 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT is a US-market example that was completed on February 28, 1972 and distributed through Chinetti-Garthwaite Imports to Knauz Continental Autos of Lake Forest, Illinois. Chassis 03458 was sold as a new car with 328 miles in 1974 to Green Bay, Wisconsin dealer Valley Sport Cars, which used it as a demonstration vehicle for two years. It was then acquired by Autosport of Ames, Iowa and sold on June 6, 1976 to its owner for the next 43 years, who moved it to Texas from Illinois in 1979. The car is powered by a rebuilt numbers-matching 2.4-liter Tipo 135CS V6 paired with its original five-speed manual transaxle, and was refinished in red over a tan vinyl interior in the 1980s. This Series E Dino is offered by the selling dealer with manuals and other literature, a tool kit, an emergency window crank, vintage branded seat covers, a Marcel Massini report, records dating from new through 2015, and a clean Texas title.

Chassis 03458 left the factory as one of 116 finished in Azzurro Metallizzato (106-A-32), and was refinished in its current red during a refurbishment by Ferrari of Houston in 1982. Imperfections in the finish are presented in the photo gallery below, including flaking beneath the rear deck lid and under the passenger door that reveals the original color. Body number 668 is shown stamped on the door jamb plates, trunk hinges, and coolant reservoir bracket, matching the number listed on the Marcel Massini report.

Cromodora 14″x6.5” alloy wheels wear Michelin XWX tires with 2018 date codes, and a matching spare is housed in the front compartment. US-market lighting includes side markers and recessed front turn signals. Also shown among gallery photos are close-ups of Sicursiv etchings on the side, vent, and quarter windows as well as a Securit mark on the rear glass. A crack is pictured in the windshield.

The interior was reupholstered in tan vinyl with brown carpeting in lieu of the original black trim during the 1982 refurbishment. Equipment includes power windows, a gated shifter, and a Pioneer cassette player. The factory air conditioning system was removed under previous ownership.

A leather-wrapped steering wheel frames Veglia Borletti instrumentation including a 170-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 7,200-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 64k miles.

The 2.4-liter Tipo 135CS V6 was rebuilt in 1978 by Autocraft in Bensenville, Illinois, with additional engine-out repairs performed in 1990 by Ferrari of Houston, in 1997 by Ben's Workshop in Austin, Texas, and between 2011 and 2012 by Moorespeed in Austin. The 2011-2012 work included replacement of the water pump, servicing the chain tensioners, adjusting the valves and camshaft timing, stud repairs, and installation of new gaskets and hoses as well as rebuilds of the triple Weber 40 DCNF carburetors. An oil change was performed by Moorespeed in 2015.

Among chassis, body, and component markings shown in the gallery below is engine block stamp 0009374, which matches the number listed on the Marcel Massini report. Number 698 is pictured on the five-speed manual transaxle, also matching the report.

Brake work at Moorespeed in Austin, Texas in 2015 included rebuilding the rear calipers, replacing the pressure switch rear pads, and a fluid flush.

Over 100 service invoices, sales receipts, and other documents from throughout the car's life are shown in the gallery below, as are several letters with requests to purchase the car from its longterm previous owner.

The Marcel Massini report lists the original colors, equipment, and component numbers.
