The 308 combined concepts and design features from both the 246 Dino and the 365, with the ability to move more precisely and swiftly than any of its contemporaries. Historically, the 308/208 series was groundbreaking for Ferrari, featuring a mid-engine layout with a pronounced wedge-shaped body penned by Bertone and development testing by Nikki Lauda.

This Dino 308 GT4 chassis 10572 was completed in April 4, 1975 as a non-catalyst U.S. specification model. Fitted equipment included electric windows, radio, air conditioning, and rear seat delete.

Shortly after acquiring 10572, an incredibly solid, nicely preserved and well maintained 308 GT4, DriverSource set out to build a “mild” Ferrari Safari as a privateer could have relatively conceived in the late 1970's-Mid 1980's. Inspiration was drawn from the GT4's Bertone-bodied cousin, the Stratos, as well as other period style trends, with all modifications completely reversible – should some deranged soul decide to do so.

The Ferrari's exterior displays older lacquer paintwork with “boxer” trim over a very straight and solid body. Spot welded seams are visible throughout the entire vehicle, along with #335 body number stamps on both inner door jambs, coil and headlight mounts. All remaining trim, lenses and side glass appear original as well. Modifications include a custom steel front bumper with solid D-hook mounts and 288 GTO style quad Hella lamps, along with an external cage over the rear bumper. The rear decklid and window surround is wrapped in satin vinyl – a nod to the Stratos louvres. All three grill vents received fresh satin black powder coat. The driver's front fender displays a custom laser-etched plaque featuring the car's logo.

Each corner rides on longer coil over suspension sourced from a 308 GTB, along with (x5) new custom Corsa Velocita 15x7” wheels mounted to 205/70VR15 Michelin XWX tires. The car's steering rack was also rebuilt to handle the new configuration. Fiberglass reinforced rear rubber mud flaps protect bystanders from gravel debris whilst the 308 is sliding sideways in the bends. The Safari's signature “whip” CB antenna is mounted through a previous antenna hole. The car's underside benefits from a recent steam cleaning detail and appears largely preserved in original condition with a solid frame, spot welds and drain holes along the outer seams and excellent structure under the belly pan through the center.

The cabin's upholstery was almost entirely original upon arrival at our facility. While the factory carpeting and leather trim were conditioned, the original seats were entrusted to GTS Classics for new leather and period corduroy inserts – stitched in factory pattern. A hidden 5th-point slit is sewn into the seat bottoms. The interior additionally features, beefier leather luggage straps, classic “Repa” 4-point seat belts, belt support bar, CB radio, aluminum pedals with footrest and ABC fire extinguisher. A retro style halftone gradient windshield banner completes the look.

The engine bay is tidy and stock in form. Both EGR and air conditioning equipment were removed in years past. In the summer of 2019, a service and scheduled tune-up was performed. Service work included a timing belt service, as well as auxiliary rubbers and ignition components. The starter was rebuilt/upgraded. The exhaust exits through a Tubi “Competition” muffler. Under pervious ownership, the Ferrari resided in San Francisco with services on file from noted Ferrari specialists Waterfront Automobili and Dino Motors.

Both front and rear comparts are tidy, with a matching spare assembly up front and original tan/black checkered liner in the luggage bay. Complete with Service Book (original - 1976), Owner's Manuals (copy) Jack/Emergency Roll with fuse/bulb container (original), and Tool Kit (reproduction).

All lights, wipers, gauges, clock (no), radio, power windows, horn, are in proper working order.

Here is certainly one of the most unique and versatile Ferraris on the planet, and ready for any road or condition the new owner is willing to throw at it!! Now available from our Houston, TX Showroom!
