Launched at the 1950 Turin Motor Show, Lancia's Aurelia was the first production car to employ a V6 engine. In 1953, the 3rd and subsequent series B20s were upgraded to a 2,451cc, 118bhp version of the pushrod V6, and this was adopted for the B24 Spider, also called the 'America', launched in 1954. For the B24 Spider, the Aurelia B20 chassis was further shortened and came with a floor-mounted gear change as standard. Acknowledged as one of Pinin Farina's masterpieces, the Aurelia B24 Spider America so successfully combined sporting characteristics with elegance, that today the model is considered one of the most sought-after of post-war Lancias.
“With its combination of beauty, quality and mechanical sophistication, the 1955 Lancia Aurelia Spider had no equal”
- Sports and Exotic Car
Only 240 B24 Spiders were manufactured during the short 1954/55 model years, with 181 in left-hand drive “S” configuration - meaning sinistra, Italian for 'left'.
Completed on November 9, 1955, Chassis 1177 was delivered new to its Italian home market in stunning Grigio over Pelle Verde upholstery (gray with green interior)!. It was purchased by Dario Fasano of Torino, and remained with him for more than 30 years in the Italian motor city, as recorded on copies of period road license documentation. The Spider passed to its second owner, Alberto Garnerone, also of Torino, in October 1987. Shortly before it was acquired by its second steward, the car was entrusted to noted Lancia restorers KCA of Milan for restoration. In the more than two decades that have elapsed since this restoration was completed, the Lancia is said to have covered just 2,000 km and remains the ideal candidate for important events such as the Mille Miglia.
Now finished in stylish Black over Tan leather livery, it comes equipped with highly desired wire wheels mounted on brand new Michelin tires and an elegant hardtop, universally accepted as one of the few such tops that possibly improves upon its exquisite form. A recent service, tune-up and inspection was recently commissioned to ensure all suspension, brake, safety, motor and drivetrain systems are in proper working order with extensive testing thereafter. The engine compression is a very healthy 200 PSI per cylinder and the wipers, gauges, lights, signals, switches, are all working properly.
A ton of research time and correspondence with the Lancia Aurelia club in Italy produced a Production Record Letter from the Registro Aurelia Italiano in Milano confirms this car; chassis number 1177 retains its original body, engine, differential, and front suspension.
The B24S is complete with tonneau cover, side curtains in bag, jack, spare, emergency triangle Lancia Registro Storico, Automobile Club d'Italia and Italian transport papers on file, along with validating badges, two important coffee table books, Italian plates and plaques mounted. The underside displays parts of what appears to be the original factory undercoating. Here is an exceptional example for the driver enthusiast seeking a very honest, well sorted and all-history-known, open Italian car that instantly qualifies for nearly any important automotive event Worldwide.
This Spider truly checks all the boxes for collectors and enthusiast around the world. An exceptional and rare offering on the open market today, we do not know of any other LHD example on offer especially at this price level. We welcome and encourage inspections and are happy to arrange shipping worldwide.
