The Maserati Merak was introduced in 1972, essentially an entry version of the Maserati Bora, while sharing the Bora's mid-engine layout and styling cues. The engine was remarkable for its compactness. Output reached a more than a respectable 190 hp at 6,000 rpm for the early Merak. Being 250 Kg lighter than the Bora, it could achieve a top speed of 247 Km/h and handled superbly. Hydraulic brakes provided prodigious stopping power and were praised for their progressive response.

According to Maserati S.p.A. Classiche Department of Modena, this Merak 3000 was completed to U.S. specifications in "Argento" (silver) paint adorned over "Black" Connoly Leather interior with standard accessories. The order for this car, chassis # AM.117.764 was placed by Maserati Automobiles, INC., with delivery to Los Angeles, California. All verified by the Certificate of Origin, Delivery Note, End of Line Data Sheet and Technical & Aesthetic Characteristics.

With Bora prices settling at a lasting high price point, the Maserati Merak has ushered itself in as a great alternative for those seeking a more affordable price point for equally stunning looks and responsive drivability. Here is a solid and complete example for a straight forward restoration to driver level or concours. As an early Citroen based car, the Merak displays a beautiful and very French SM dash assembly, as well as a shared hydraulic system and unique rear engine lid extrusion to accompany a full sized spare. Completed in November of 1974 for the U.S. market, this near lifelong California car made its way to west Texas during the past decade and is believed to have been off of the road for at least the years following or possibly sometime prior. The California Sunrise plates show a December 1996 expiration date. Its current color of black was applied over the factory silver many years ago, while much of the interior's upholstery remains original. This exceeding rare Merak makes for an exciting find and will surely make for a fun and rewarding summer project. The Merak carries the embodiment of all the best traits of Maserati engineering and will certainly be cherished for years to come. Available now for worldwide delivery.
