Documented History By Marcel Massini

Introduced at the 1967 Paris Salon and produced through early 1971, the 365 GT 2+2 was a great commercial success by Ferrari standards, numbering as few as 801 and accounting for about half the company's total production during its relatively brief run. For a time, the 365 GT 2+2 was the sole Ferrari model available for sale in the crucial US market due to the tougher emissions regulations in effect beginning in 1968. According to Stanley Nowak's book, Ferrari: Forty Years on the Road, approximately 100 examples were imported when new to the US. Historically speaking, the 365 GT 2+2 was the last luxury-oriented, 12-cylinder model offered by Ferrari until the 1992 debut of the 456 GT. Today, Ferrari's 365 GT 2+2 is, simply put, a gentleman's sports car with a matchless pedigree. The model features timeless style and delivers the outstanding performance characteristic of the greatest classic V-12 Ferrari GT cars.

The example offered here, chassis number 13583, is an original European-specification 1970 Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 and is documented by noted Ferrari historian Marcel Massini as car number 702 of the series by assembly sequence. Factory delivered in distinctive Verde Bahram paint, (which comes from a British race horse thoroughbred of the 1930's), over Nero (Black) leather upholstery. It is believed that less than ten Ferrari's were painted this rare color from the factory.

In 1970, 13583 was delivered new to official Swiss Ferrari importer SAVAF (Societe Anonyme pour la Vente des Automobiles Ferrari) in Geneva, where it was sold new to a Swiss resident. Subsequently repainted in red but remaining otherwise highly original, it remained in the Geneva area until the 2000s, when it was exported to the States. A 1999 advertisement by a Geneva dealer described the car as red/black and in very good original condition. After importation to the US, the Ferrari received comprehensive mechanical restoration exceeding $60,000 in expenses. The work including an engine rebuild, installation of a new stainless-steel exhaust system and service to the brakes, shock absorbers, suspension, and air-conditioning - plus a full service and freshening of the exterior paint finish. This major service is noted on the Marcel Massini history report.

From 2015 - early 2016, 13583 was treated to a stunning restoration by Pebble Beach winning restorer Jeff's Resurrections in Taylor, Texas. During the restoration the body was stripped to bare medal and finished in its stunning original color of Verde Bahram which was found on several areas of the body once the car was stripped. Additional work performed was re-chroming of the bumpers, installation of new Connelly leather, detailing of the chassis and a thorough engine detailing and service. The trim around the windows was in good original condition and was not changed.

In all this 365 GT is stunningly presented and ready for to show or to use on classic rallies, and touring events. Equipped with air-conditioning, power windows and power steering will also certainly provide enjoyment on the open road as a weekend driver or daily cruiser. Showing less than 30,000 km (18,641 miles) which are believed to be accurate but not documented from new this wonderful Ferrari includes a concours-correct tool kit, owner's manual and an original factory brochure.

365 GT's are among one of the finest driving front engine V12 Ferraris of the classic era, they are a luxurious GT and represent great value in today's market place. We've had the privilege to own over a dozen eamples of the model and can undoubtedly say this is among the finest we have seen.

This beautifully restored car will certainly give its next owner rewarding ownership. Now available for sale at a great price, we welcome inspections and are happy to assist with worldwide delivery.
